His professional journey began in 1988, working at Galadima Aminu Chambers Yola and subsequently completing his NYSC at Crown Mills Group. Awwal rose through the ranks at Daddo Group Yola, becoming the Group Managing Director in 1994. His leadership played a crucial role in the organization’s consolidation and diversification into various sectors.

In 1999, Awwal entered politics and was elected as a member of the House of Representatives on the PDP platform. During his tenure, he served on committees related to Agriculture, Foreign Relations, and chaired the Committee on Aviation. His notable contributions led to his participation in the National Political Reform Conference in 2005.

Beyond his political career, Awwal holds several social and professional titles, including Sardauna of Garaha District and Gashaka in Taraba State, Ciroma of Jimeta, and Ozurumba of Ndigbo in Adamawa and Taraba States. He is actively involved in various company boards and holds honorary life memberships in different organizations, showcasing his diverse contributions.
