Adamawa State Government Establishes Committee to Address Food Security Amid FX Crisis

In response to the prevailing foreign exchange (FX) crisis impacting Nigeria, The RT. Hon. Ahmadu Fintiri Administration has initiated proactive measures to tackle food security challenges by establishing a Committee on Food Security. The newly established committee convened a strategic session aimed at formulating a comprehensive strategy to ensure food security in the face of economic uncertainties.

Led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Awwal D. Tukur, the committee comprises key stakeholders from various sectors, including agriculture, livestock, planning commission, food security, and ICT. The interactive session witnessed robust debates as participants deliberated on strategies to optimize the entire agribusiness sector for both local sustenance and international trade.

During the session, attendees discussed the need to harness surplus agricultural produce for export, particularly to neighboring countries such as Cameroon. The Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Livestock, Chairperson of the Planning Commission, Special Advisers on Food Security and ICT, Permanent Secretaries in Political, Agriculture, and Livestock ministries, and the Principal Special Assistant on Agriculture were among the attendees.

The SSG charged the committee with the task of developing a harmonized strategy within the next two weeks. Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, he urged the committee to deliver actionable recommendations for onward transmission to the Executive Governor.

The interactive nature of the session allowed for fruitful exchanges of ideas and perspectives, enabling participants to explore innovative approaches to enhance food security, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth through agricultural exports.

Adamawa State’s proactive approach to addressing food security challenges underscores its commitment to proactive governance and economic resilience in the face of global uncertainties. Through collaborative efforts and strategic planning, Adamawa aims to strengthen its position as a key player in ensuring food security and promoting economic prosperity in the region.
